The unit taken out for overhaul is rated at 45 MW. The scope of work is aimed at restoring service life and preventing equipment failures. The gas turbine engine has already been shipped to the contractor workshop.
Servicing this unit had previously been impossible because of sanctions. Maintenance and the refurbishment of spare parts have been taken on by a Russian company with comparable experience.
Whether the unit is repaired with a life extension or parts are replaced, primarily the rotor blades, will be decided on the basis of laboratory testing. Aleksey Zarutsky, deputy chief engineer of the plant, said that all defects found would be rectified so that the unit can return to full operation.
For context, in March 2024 the option of shutting down RusHydro power plants running on foreign gas turbines was under consideration, including the Yakutsk GRES-2 units and the Vostochnaya CHP plant.
The case is characteristic of the wider industry: the servicing of imported gas turbine packages, including the refurbishment of spare parts, is gradually moving to Russian contractors.
SeverEnergoProject performs overhaul and maintenance of Solar Turbines gas turbine units with Russian specialists and supplies spare parts from stock.
