During the inspection, engineers record the condition of the working components: blades and nozzle assemblies. Dedicated probe attachments allow cracks and chips to be measured precisely, three-dimensional models of the defects to be built from those measurements, and a technical assessment to be made.
The purpose is to find defects at an early stage and to plan the replacement of worn components in advance. Marat Fetkullov, director of the Novokuibyshevsk CHP-1, noted that such inspections help to detect defects early and to schedule repairs ahead of time.
The Samara branch carried out its first inspection of this kind at the same plant in 2020.
Borescope inspection has become a routine procedure in gas turbine maintenance. It shortens downtime because no disassembly is required, and it extends the service life of the unit by revealing gas path damage in good time.
